Haluk Savaş was born in 1966 in Adana, southern Turkey. He studied primary and high school in Adana. He studied School of Medicine in Marmara University, in Istanbul between 1984 and 1991. In 1997, he got residency training in Department of Psychiatry in Bakirkoy Nervous and Mental Diseases Research and Training Hospital. He earned master degree in Department of Sociology and Antropology in Marmara University. In 2000, he became Assistant Professor, in 2003, he became Associate Professor, in 2008, he became Professor in Gaziantep University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. He has been also the director of the Mood Disorders and Dependence Units in the same university since 2000.
He has 18 research and academic awards, 5 of which are international, the others are national. He has 59 national and 117 international research articles. Among Turkish psychiatrists, he is the one who has academic articles in the highest number. His academic researh reports got about 1500 attributions, which made him the third Turkish Psychiatrist in attribution ranks. He has 7 guidelines booklets for patients. He has 3 guidelines booklets for his colleagues. He has been referee of about 50 journals, 30 of which are international journals, 20 of which are national journals. He is the member of various national and international associatons. He is the chief editor of “Journal of Mood Disorders” (www.jmood.org) . He is in the editorial board of World Journal of Psychiatry other 4 journals. He is in aavisory boards of nearly 20 academic journals.
He is a certificated educator and supervisor of IPT (Interpersonal Psychotherapy) from Iowa Psychotherapy Institute. He is a certificated educator of IPSRT (Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Psychotherapy) from University of Pisttsburg. He is a certificated educator of LEAP technique (Listen, Emphatize, Agree, Partnership) from New York LEAP Institute. He attended in Training of Metacognitive Therapy in Manchester. He attended in Training of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Schizophrenia in London.
Moreover, he presented his acedemic studies and reports in over 100 national and international academic conferences. He was invited to many national TV programs and public conferences all over Turkey. He is currently giving information to people about psychiatric disorders through web broadcasting and social media networks.
