Melisa earned her bachelors degree from San Jose State University and graduated with honors in Criminal Justice. Melisa’s passion for therapeutic intervention began through an internship at Santa Clara County, monitoring individuals within the mental health unit of the probation department. She then pursued graduate studies at the University of Southern California, where she completed her field placement in a residential rehabilitation program to help veterans suffering from PTSD and substance abuse. She concentrated her masters studies in Mental Health with a sub-specialization in Military and graduated as a Deans List Scholar.

Melisa began her career as a Therapist working in the Adult Outpatient Program contracted through LA County Department of Mental Health. She conducted psychological assessments, diagnosed, and effectively established treatment plans for patients with a wide range of mental disorders including depression, anxiety and panic disorders, trauma, schizophrenia, substance abuse, and other co-occurring disorders. She has worked alongside interdisciplinary teams including therapists, psychiatrists, MD's, and medical personnel, as a way to provide a safe and healthy environment for her patients. Currently, Melisa is working in the medical field providing care management and support for individuals with chronic disease and comorbidities.

Melisa holds professional certifications as a Master Addictions Counselor from National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals, Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and Diplomate by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, as well as Certified Interpersonal Psychotherapist through the IPT Institute. Additional Evidence-Based Practice certifications of hers include Seeking Safety, Crisis Oriented Recovery Services, and Motivational Interviewing. She has obtained her clinical licensure for independent practice.
