IPT Institute International Affiliated Branch

Est. 2015

Location

One of the earliest IPT dissemination projects in the world began in Australia.  Initial training occurred in Sydney in 1999 through a partnership between the IPT Institute and Sydney University, led by Scott Stuart and Michael Robertson respectively.  In 2000, Dr. Stuart spent a sabbatical year in Sydeny at the University of New South Wales, working on developing IPT for perinatal women and familes.  In addition to on-line training and supervision, the Institute has been conducting at least 3 in-person trainings in Australia each year in cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, Perth, Tamworth, Cairns, Townsville, and Canberra among others.

Australia is also the origin of the ISIPT (International Society for Interpersonal Psychotherapy) which was founded as a research society by Drs. Robertson and Stuart, and was based in Austalia until 2011.

Ongoing training programs include Sydney University, the Queensland Universit of Technology in Brisbane, and Melbourne University.  Australia now boasts a number of IPT trainers and supervisors with may more in the certification pipeline.

IPT is recognized by the National Australia Health system as an evidenced-based treatment and training has been recognized by the PACFA (Psychological and Counseling Federation of Australia) and the APS (Australian Psychological Society).
