IPT COURSE INSTRUCTOR Scott Fairhurst, PhD
Paul Kasurak, MSW
Fellow, IPT Institute
Paul Kasurak is a social worker in Ontario, Canada, who worked for many years on a Mood Disorders Service in a large psychiatric hospital. He has taught and trained residents in psychiatry at Queen’s University in Kingston since 2005 where he is an Adjunct-Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry. Paul did post-graduate study in long-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy at Smith College and began training in IPT in 2000. He loves the universal appeal of IPT as it deals with everyday life issues of change, loss and conflict. The biopsychosocial/cultural/spiritual orientation of IPT makes it a social work best practice and Paul brings his knowledge of IPT to his supervision of Master’s-level students in social work and counselling psychology. As well as training others in IPT Paul offers clinical consultation to practicing community therapists and works as a casual social worker in a general hospital, mainly doing discharge planning and mental health assessments in the Emergency Department.
