Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) is an empirically validated treatment for a variety of psychiatric disorders. The evidence for IPT supports its use for a variety of affective disorders, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders, and for a wide range of patients from children and adolescents to the elderly. IPT is recognized as an evidence-based psychotherapy by the American Psychiatric Association, The American Psychological Association, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence in the UK, and the International Cochrane Collaboration. There are now over 250 empirical studies supporting the efficacy and effectiveness of IPT.
The IPT Institute specifically focuses on:
-Training IPT clinicians, supervisors, and trainers to established standards
-Promoting the delivery of IPT at a high level of adherence and quality
-Conducting research regarding IPT training and adherence
The IPT Institute was founded in 2009. The Institute was developed specifically to develop and promote international standards for IPT training and certification. That continues to be our primary mission.
