We are providing a full range of psychiatric and psychological services using telemedicine during the Covid-19 crisis.
Iowa River Psychiatry and Counseling provides general psychiatric and psychological services for adults and adolescents. We assistance to individuals, families, and couples.
Specific clinical services include:
Assessment: Upon a referral to our team, we conduct a thorough assessment and develop a course of treatment collaboratively with patients.
Consultation/second opinions: Feedback about ongoing treatment and suggestions for treatment are provided to referring clinicians.
Psychotherapy/counseling: Short and Long-term counseling is available. Specialty counseling includes Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies, and Mindfulness-based psychotherapy. Psychotherapy for couples and families is also an emphasis.
Psychotropic medication services: Prescription and management of antidepressant and anti-anxiety medication regimens.
Prevention: Medical and psychotherapeutic treatments are provided for people who are at risk of developing depression or anxiety but are not currently having difficulties.
In addition, we provide advanced diagnosis and treatment of pregnant women and new mothers who are experiencing mood and anxiety disorders related to childbirth. We provide integrated and comprehensive clinical care for pregnant and postpartum women, as well as care during other mental health problems associated with reproduction.
Dr. Scott Stuart, the Director of the service, is a psychiatrist who has been doing clinical work, research, and teaching with perinatal women and families for nearly 30 years. He is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Iowa and the University of Southern California, and Director of the Interpersonal Psychotherapy Institute. He provides clinical training and consultation to perinatal practices around the world, and is internationally recognized for his research in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and his expertise in treating pregnant and postpartum women and their families.
